Since 1863, PERRIER^® owes its uniqueness to a source in the South of France. Our Agrivair Garrigue program helps preserve this precious resource and its surrounding ecosystem.​

Launched in July 2025, this program helps drive actions on water resources and biodiversity preservation around the PERRIER^® spring in the Gard region, where the brand has been established for over 160 years. ​ ​

Backed by a €25 million investment over five years, Agrivair Garrigue is based on a collaborative approach involving local stakeholders (local authorities, public and private partners, the farming community and non-profit organisations). ​ ​

This programme builds on the actions carried out for many years by Nestlé Waters & Premium Beverages and its partners, including: ​ ​

• The deployment of agroecological measures to support local biodiversity around the PERRIER^® source: more than 10,000 trees and shrubs planted since 2020, and more than 500 bird nesting boxes and bat shelters installed and monitored with the Centre Ornithologique du Gard since 2023. ​ ​

• The protection of natural areas: 112 hectares of garrigue and traditional agroecosystems — including meadows, grasslands, olive groves and orchards — protected through the region's first forestry-related "Obligation Réelle Environnementale" contract with the Conservatoire d’Espaces Naturels d’Occitanie, signed in 2021^*. ​ ​

• The implementation of environmental awareness initiatives: installation of a first environmental educational trail in Vestric in 2025.​ ​

^* This contract, signed in 2021, commits the parties for a period of 10 years to preserving 112 hectares of forests, garrigue and traditional agroecosystems through biodiversity contribution obligations, such as the ban on phytosanitary products in forest and garrigue areas. ​

THE QUALITY OF OUR WATER STARTS WITH THE QUALITY OF THE LIVING SOILS…

Understanding the natural environment surrounding the PERRIER^® source​ ​

Everything in nature is intertwined: if we are to preserve PERRIER^® natural mineral water, which is located in the groundwater aquifer, it is vital that we protect the surrounding lands that form the catchment area known as the “impluvium”. ​ ​

​The impluvium for the PERRIER^® source primarily consists of vegetation that is typical to the south of France, the “Garrigue” scrubland, surrounded by villages and agricultural lands.

The natural ecosystem around the PERRIER^® source is home to remarkable biodiversity, with nearly 1000 plant species and more than 500 species of mammals, birds and insects monitored by our biodiversity experts.​

Acting on our whole value chain ​​

From production to transport, we have made changes to help reduce the environmental footprint of our operations. Since 2018, our bottles have been transported daily by train from Vergèze to the port of Fos-sur-Mer, avoiding around 27,000 truck journeys and reducing associated CO₂ emissions (1,510 tonnes of CO₂ in 2025). We also purchase electricity from renewable energy sources for our operations in our Vergèze factory*.​ ​

^*An amount of renewable energy equivalent to the factory's consumption is introduced into the power grid via Guarantees of Origin certificates.
