Endless match: 1998, a 16-set final. The Spaniard Corretja and the Argentinean Gumy are fighting tooth and nail. Neither is willing to give up. In the last set, Corretja, exhausted, wins the match 9 to 7, after 5 hours and 31 minutes of gruelling play.

Longest tournament: In 1973, Paris is flooded with rain. The finals of the Men's singles have to be delayed. They are held on the Tuesday, with Romanian Nastase beating Yugoslavian Pilic.

Fastest finals: Jan Kodes has won the Roland Garros tournament twice. In 1970, he took just one hour and eight minutes to beat Zelko Franulovic in the finals.
