Men
Strongest:
Without doubt Bjorn Borg. The Swedish tennis player was known for his legendary discipline. He holds the record for victories - 6, number of matches won, and number of sets won.
The dean: Born in 1917, Bernard Destremau played Roland Garros for the first time in 1934. Twenty-nine years later, at the age of 52, he bid his farewell. Quite a career!
Most persistent:
F. Jauffret , one of the French greats, played in 20 tournaments. He loved the competition, and even if he never won, he always considered it essential to play.
Most ill-tempered:
No need to introduce John McEnroe. Rarely agreeing with umpire calls, he forged a reputation for being an 'insufferable' player. But his bad temper never kept him from displaying true grace on the courts.
Most courageous: In 1990 and 1991, André Agassi made it to the finals, only to lose to his opponents. Displaying courage and determination, he finally won the much coveted title in 1999. What a comeback. |
